As much as I would like to make food from scratch all the time, sometimes it just isn’t in the cards. Thankfully, I have a most glorious spousal unit who is wicked smart using prepared foods.

So, on this chilly and rainy weekend, where temperatures were down in the range of our Stephen Taber trip in June, she decided that some comfort food was in order.

Hatch Chile Pepper Pork Burger with Serrano Ham

Back on the 4th of July holiday, when my good friend BigDMcC and I participated in our very own paella fest, he brought over a type of pepper seasoning I had never experienced before: Piment d’Espelette. That seasoning just did wonders with the pork he used in his paella.

Since we are still on our burger crusade, I thought, why not?

Pequins add spice to your life

I truly love fall here in Austin. The cooler temperatures, the clear blue skies, and the bright sunshine bring out the best in me and in my garden.

One of my favorite things is the lovely chile pequin pepper plants that grow all over my yard and garden, almost to the point of being a weed. They are such cute little things:


See, I told you. Would I lie to you?

Cute as they are, they pack quite a punch though. According to Wikipedia they are seven to eight times hotter than jalapeƱos. There is more to these than heat…they have some great flavor, too.
