My most glorious spousal unit’s Aunt Doris spends a lot of time in the kitchen between fits of nagging Uncle Ralph over how much time he spends at the golf course or how much sawdust he generates in his basement wood shop. They are truly what one would call salt-of-earth people and are a total hoot to be around.
So, it never fails, that when my mom-in-law comes down to Austin for a visit, Aunt Do sends Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies Treats® 
along with her. She wraps them in aluminum foil and plastic wrap just to ensure they show up on the luggage scanners and look to all the world like kilo bricks of something illicit. I laugh when I think of my 81 year-old, 4′-8″, 100 lb. mom-in-law as a mule hauling Rice Krispies Treats®. Yes, in my advanced years, I am easily entertained.
It came to pass that on the way home from the airport, my beloved and her mom stopped at a fried chicken joint to grab a bucket of strangely cut chicken parts for dinner. At least they haven’t gone to shredding the chicken and reconstituting it to look like chicken parts yet, but I am sure someone is thinking about it.
And it just so happens that a wine I chose to accompany the chicken also went surprisingly well with the Treats. Behold, the power of wine.
